Summary: Kareen Ellis. Two words that would forever be associated with the sort of heart wrenching drama that should never befall any one person in a single lifetime. Years after being torn from her family and thrown into foster homes that couldn't care less about her, Kareen's living arrangements are no better than had she stayed with her parents in the midst of their domestic violence issues - maybe even worse. But just as she's feeling like she's in a rut with no way out, freedom comes for her in the form of a six-foot-plus, golden-eyed...vampire?
A night of hunting prey turns into a discovery of love for Lucian. After so many decades of loneliness - save for his little sister Maria - the vampire finds something worth living for in Kareen, the woman who would admit to being anything but a damsel in distress. Though he would have to admit that it's pretty hard to call her anything so gentle after she breaks his arm and seals her fate as the light of his immortal life.
Kareen had never believed in love, not until Lucian. And that love transgressed all logic the very first night they lay together - the one night that resulted in conception between a human and an undead. But apparently Kareen isn't ever meant to be happy, because one night and a six-pack of radical vampire hunters tears that very happiness from her arms...from her very heart. With the death of her vampire lover, Kaeen is forced to let go of her son or face his death as well, because the hunters are on her trail and demand all things vampire to be wiped from the earth.
Turns of events later has Kareen packing fangs herself and facing off against more evil, this time in the form of a vampire organization calling itself Reapers. She falls into a coven of mixed company, led by a vampire named Victor. Then tragedy strikes again, wiping out the humans Victor looked after.
The Reapers are to blame for all the death trailing Kareen and she's tired of being on the defensive.
Notes: This is a rewrite of the original story and will hopefully be followed by the sequel that had only a small start.

This was one of the very first stories I had ever started when I got into writing. I had enjoyed reading vampire stories on Quizilla (before they sold out to Nickelodeon and totally slaughtered the site down to prepubescent swill) and I had eventually decided to give a crack at writing one of my own vamp shows. Most of the scenes didn't get planned out and the characters had surprised me during their developments. I'm hoping to find more surprises as I rewrite it chapter by chapter. I always try to pride myself on not being cliche with my stories, and those who have read this one before know the big surprises that happen. So keep that to yourself, everyone! There will be some out there who don't know what to expect just yet and it's fun to get fresh reactions.

Maria's Hunt is a single-chapter story known as a one-shot. It takes place during the feeding Maria--Lucian's sister--goes off to do just before Kareen gives birth. I was getting a little stuck rewriting the next chapter of Crimson Tears and I had Maria on the brain. I figured she needed her due and had wanted to sort of explain how the rogue hunters had found the house in the woods. So thus Maria's Hunt was born. I'm considering making more one-shots of other secondary characters, but not until later, where there are more characters to play with and more scenarios to cross the path of my imaginary friends.
